Inside The Fit Check: A Night Celebrating Chicago’s Emerging Fashion Talent

In collaboration with MOOD, The Fit Check Designer Showcase + Mixer brought together independent designers, creative voices, and Chicago’s fashion community for an evening centered on style, individuality, and connection.

Chicago has never been short on creative talent. What continues to evolve is how that talent finds its audience, builds community, and creates space for new perspectives in fashion.

The Fit Check Designer Showcase + Mixer, presented in collaboration with MOOD, offered a glimpse into that evolving landscape, bringing together emerging designers, creatives, and fashion enthusiasts for an evening that moved between personal style, independent design, and community.

Clèco attended to document the evening, meet the creative minds behind the collections, and explore the stories contributing to Chicago's growing independent fashion scene.

Beyond the Runway

Fashion showcases are often defined by what appears on the runway. Yet some of the most interesting moments happen beyond it: the conversations between designers, the details that distinguish one collection from another, and the people who show up to support independent creativity.

The Fit Check created an opportunity for those different elements to meet.

With a designer showcase and mixer forming the evening's program, the event offered more than a presentation of clothing. It brought together individuals contributing to Chicago's fashion culture from different perspectives, creating room for discovery, conversation, and connection.

For emerging designers, these spaces matter. Visibility can introduce a collection to a new audience, but relationships, creative exchange, and community support can help sustain the work beyond a single event.

The Designers Shaping the Conversation

The evening featured four emerging fashion labels, each contributing a distinct creative perspective.

Suited by Dutch

Suited by Dutch joined the showcase as one of the participating independent labels, contributing to an evening that highlighted the range of creative voices working within Chicago's fashion community.

TINDERA

Designer Joseph Accordino represented TINDERA, bringing another independent design perspective to the showcase and its celebration of emerging talent.

Motalija by The Crohort

Simone Johnson's The Crohort introduced Motalija as part of the evening's designer lineup. The debut marked an opportunity to present the line to a fashion-focused audience and expand the conversation around its creative direction.

Ariel Willis Design

Ariel Willis Design, represented by Ren Willis, rounded out the featured designer lineup, adding to the evening's exploration of individual expression and independent fashion.

Together, the participating labels reflected something important about emerging fashion: there is no single creative identity defining the next generation of designers. The interest lies in their differences, their individual points of view, and the communities forming around their work.

Building Space for Chicago’s Creative Community

Behind the evening were Simone Johnson and Ren Willis, whose work in bringing The Fit Check together deserves recognition.

Producing an independent fashion event involves more than assembling a designer lineup. It requires bringing together creative talent, collaborators, an audience, and a shared vision for what the experience can become.

Through their collaboration with MOOD, The Fit Check provided a platform for designers to present their work while inviting Chicago's wider creative community into the experience.

As the city's independent fashion scene continues to develop, initiatives like this contribute to an ecosystem where emerging talent can be seen, connections can form, and new creative opportunities can begin.

Through the Clèco Lens

At Clèco, our interest in fashion extends beyond what is trending. We are equally interested in the people shaping the industry, the thinking behind their work, and the cultural conversations that make fashion meaningful.

The Fit Check offered an opportunity to document that.
